MELTHAM

Our January club meeting is a great reason for making the effort and visiting Meltham. Many of our members we know find it difficult to attend meetings due to the distances involved and having to take time off work etc, however our winter meeting may be just the thing for you, a couple of days spent with fellow enthusiasts may be just the tonic you need, Friday morning spent visiting McCormick Tractors, the afternoon slowly motoring back towards Meltham, a bar snack Tea at Durker Roods before our evening meeting, Saturday free to explore around the factory site or the test track or perhaps into Holmfirth for some "last of the summer wine" before rounding off the weekend at the Tractor club dinner. Many members do make the effort to attend (last year we welcomed people from Finland as well as Cornwall and the North of Scotland). So lets see you there in January! Durker Roods accomodation can be booked on 01484 851413

McCORMICK TRACTORS VISIT.

Due to popular demand we have decided to re-visit McCormick tractors Manufacturing plant at Doncaster. Since our last visit 3 years ago many things have changed, Case international have gone and been replaced by a new Company and new products. Our visit includes a short presentation, a tour of the assembly buildings, lunch and a short visit to the newly established parts distribution facility. The visit will begin at 9.30 with refreshments and is planned to be completed by 1.30pm leaving members enough time for a leisurely drive back to Meltham for the evening meeting. To reserve a place Telephone 07802373270 or fax 01484 690454 OR e mail robert@webster1694.fsnet.co.uk

Handing over the keys
The Case Corporation chose to close the Case tractor factory (formerly David Brown) at Meltham, West Yorkshire, and transfer production to Racine, Wisconsin, U.S.A.

One tractor, built on 11th March 1988, was a Commemorative 1594 (as pictured). This was known as "The last tractor built at Meltham".

This tractor, due to the courtesy of CNH (CaseNewHolland inc) will be returning to its country of birth and will reside in the David Brown museum.

More information on this tractor is available through the members magazine: "Tractor News"
